Copyrights are messy. The more you learn about proper licensing the more confusing it gets. But contrary to popular belief — churches and non-profits are subject to copyright law. You cannot legally perform or reproduce copyrighted songs and literature without a license (this includes on your website.)
CCS publishes a great little ebook that explains copyrights and licenses in the most straightforward way that I have seen. Click here to download the ebook. They also have a number of other fact sheets and webinar videos to help you determine when you need to license content and how.
This is a great resource for understanding copyrights and licensing. It would also be effective for someone trying to convince their senior leadership that they need to properly license the creative content they use.
