Ministry Communicator Profile: Sheri DePuy
Sheri DePuy serves as Communications Coordinator for Northview Christian Life Church in Carmel, IN. She took some time to talk to MinistryCOM about her role and thoughts about collaboration among church communicators.
MinistryCOM: What do you enjoy the most about church communications?
SHERI DEPUY: I love that we are involved in every aspect of the church. It’s exciting to be able to work with so many different ministries and leaders and to help them come up with creative ways to get their message out.
MC: What’s most challenging about church communications?
SD: A big challenge for us is trying to accommodate ministry requests while at the same time keeping an eye on how it all fits into the bigger picture of our church as a whole. Our job is to help each ministry communicate their message but in a way that consistently reinforces who our church is overall.
MC: We heard you just submitted your first project to the Church Marketing Lab. What made you decide to share your work for feedback?
SD: I had been a frequent visitor to the Lab to get ideas and inspiration and loved how valuable the comments were in improving some of the projects. I knew I could definitely use the feedback and encouragement of other designers who face the same challenges.
MC: What is the most helpful feedback you received from participating in the Lab?
SD: From the people who were honest about something that just didn’t work in a piece. You are forced to look at your project from a different perspective and as a result make revisions that dramatically improve its effectiveness.
MC: Who do you want to give unsolicited feedback to?
SD: I guess my unsolicited feedback would be to encourage everyone working in ministry to take time out to rest and refresh. You end up being much more efficient and effective when you’ve had time to focus on things other than your work.
